    Mozambique

    Laid back island life

Summary

With a coastline stretching endlessly for thousands of miles, Mozambique literally has beaches for Africa. And with those beaches come ocean in fifty shades of blue, pretty pink-tinged sunsets, luxury barefoot accommodation and friendly local people. Coupled with palm-fringed beaches and the fishing villages of Inhambane and Vilanculos on the mainland, Mozambique includes two of the most incredible offshore archipelagos in its repertoire: Quirimbas in the far north near the Tanzanian border and Bazaruto down south. Although pricey with some traveling time to get there, they are worth every cent. They boast world-class diving, dazzling snorkeling amongst protected coral reefs and top beach lodges. Remote wIldlife areas like Niassa up north and Gorongoza in central Mozambique are coming into their own, with massive conservation efforts taking place to restore wildlife and tourism to these areas. A rich history of Portuguese and Arab influence can be seen in the buildings, monuments and traditions of Mozambqiue. A visit to Ibo Island in Pemba will take you back into Mozambique's rich past, and at the same time surround you with beauty and adventure.
